Cotococha lodge invites you to experience Ecuador´s Amazon in a comfortable way. Our unique Amazon lodge is located in the upper Amazon basin overlooking the majestic Napo River.

Cotococha Amazon Lodge is located 200 km east of Quito, at an altitude of approximately 500 meters. The area forms part of the Upper Amazon Basin, characterized by small Quichua communities and abundant vegetation. Due to the location near the Andes, the area is rich in tropical humid forests, one of the most biologically diverse regions in the world with a high number of endemic species in flora and fauna. The comfortable Amazon Lodge overlooks the amazing Napo River with its small islets of stones and sandy shores.

In the evenings and mornings you can enjoy breathtaking views of sunsets and sunrises which colors the skies, waters and the Amazon rainforest.

Because the Napo River has a low water level, you can take a refreshing swim or simply relax on the small sandy beach. The shore is also used as a dock for Cotococha´s canoe, where several of Ecuador´s Amazon tours depart.

Activities

At Cotococha you are able to design your own Amazon tours day by day. An expert local guide will assist you choosing the excursions according to your wishes and interests. Most itineraries in our Amazon Tours include visits to the local communities, hikes in the rain forest, canoe trips, night walks, cascade visits, river tubing or rafting, and other activities.

Butterfly Farm

A short canoe ride from Cotococha Amazon Lodge (approx. 30 minutes) brings us to the amazon village of Misahualli. This village is home to a small butterfly farm, owned and maintained by a local who understands the importance of nature conservation and education.

Local Communities

Experience life the Quichua way. Native people from the area where Cotococha Amazon Lodge is located are formally known as the Amazon Quichua. We’ll visit a nearby community where we will share with them their daily activities. Once we arrive we will notice the great amount of medicinal plants and fruit trees as well as small yucca, banana, coffee and cocoa plantations.

Indigenous museum

Besides of Cotococha Amazon Lodge amazing experience visiting a local community, we’ll have the opportunity to learn about the ancient cultural knowledge and wisdom of the Amazon Quichuas visiting a local museum.

Caves

Many caves have been discovered in this area of the Upper Amazon. Some are open to the public and can be visited from Cotococha Amazon Lodge. The Jumandy cave is one of the most impressive.

Cascades and Waterfalls

The remarkable number of waterfalls has been a distinguishes the area surrounding Cotococha Amazon Lodge; Cotococha´s best choice is “Las Latas” waterfall, located just one hour from Cotococha Amazon Lodge. A short canoe ride, followed by an easy walk through some beautiful secondary forests, leads you to Latas.

Tubing and Balsa rafting

Imagine floating downstream on the great Napo River on a tube or a balsa raft. Cotococha Amazon Lodge offers three ways of floating down the Napo:

• On individual tubes, for the more adventurous people.
• A raft made of several connected tubes. More stable and you will not be alone, one of Cotococha´Amazon Lodge native guides can join you on your adventure.
• A Balsa raft, made of tree trunks of this lightweight tree. 

Jungle hikes

Cotococha Amazon Lodge offers short and long Amazon jungle hikes at several ecological reserves and protected forests. We’ll walk through secondary and primary Amazon rainforest, accompanied by one of Cotococha´s native Quichua guides.

Night walks

Enjoy the recurring sounds of the rainforest at night while taking a spectacular jungle night walk. We will be able to watch a great variety of night insects and learn about their behavior. With luck we may see tarantulas or reptiles in our way. It is recommended to carry a flashlight.

Wildife observation

In the dense Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest, wildlife observation may be difficult because of its topography. However, we can take a motorized canoe ride from Cotococha Amazon Lodge down the Napo River to visit an Animal Rescue Center in the Amazon: “AmazOOnico”.

Rafting and Kayaking

Great white-water rafting & kayaking up to level IV is a major attraction for the adventure seekers in this region of Ecuador´s Amazon.

Splendid crystal clear rivers surrounded by a pristine and exotic natural environment make these white-water trips even more spectacular. From single day trips up to four days are offered at Cotococha Amazon Lodge.

Cotococha Amazon Lodge also offers rafting for families at the Anzu River. The Anzu River offers easy rapids, but a guaranteed wet adventure! Non of the rafting excursions require experience.

Facilities

Rooms:

Cotococha Amazon lodge offers 17 spacious bungalows, built according to traditional architecture in harmony with the surrounding rainforest. All bungalows are equipped with a private bathroom with hot and cold shower, a private veranda with reclining chairs or hammocks to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of Ecuador´s Amazon. Social areas are carefully decorated and offer all comfort and coziness for a splendid stay in the Ecuadorian Amazon.

The bungalows are divided into 1 single, 3 triple and 13 double rooms.

All of Cotococha´s bungalows are scattered on our 4 hectares of jungle environment, emphasizing quality and coziness for an unforgettable rainforest experience. Four cabins are situated along the rivershore offering some awesome views of the great Napo River.

 Electricity is not provided at the bungalows, but Cotococha Amazon Lodge has oil lamps along the paths and at the bungalows, which illuminates the property creating a very romantic atmosphere.

• The Lounge: Cotococha´s has a cozy lounge with a fireplace which offers comfortable seats to read or share your Amazon tours experiences with other travelers.
• Restaurant and Bar: Cotococha´s bar offers several tropical drinks. The restaurant is partly open-air and serves great local & international food.
