Izhcayluma is located in the Longevity Valley of Vilcabamba in Ecuador, we offer you the ideal spot to relax for a few days and recuperate from the stress of everyday life, or as a base camp to participate in the many activities Vilcabamba has to offer. In our care you will find separate lodges with an exceptional outlook over the "Sacred Valley" of the Incas.

The hotel is near the city of Loja, capital of the same named province. It is a one hour drive from Loja to Vilcabamba. For air travel, Loja has a national airport with connections to Quito and Guayaquil.

Activities

Vilcabamba received global attention in the 1970s when scientists discovered that a disproportionate number of its residents live more than 100 years. The experts never pinpointed the exact cause behind this “Valley of Longevity,” but here are a few clues: The village is nestled in the crook of Ecuador’s southern Andes and surrounded by 12,000-foot peaks. Most of the food offered here is organic and locally grown. It’s flanked by cloud forest and jungle, home to a network of multi-use trails (and 600 species of birds). And then there’s the daily siesta. Now, we can’t guarantee that you’ll live longer by visiting Vilcabamba. But it can’t hurt, either.

Bird Watch in Podocarpus National Park

Famous for hundreds of colorful songbirds and wild orchids, the 360,000-acre Parque is accessible a short drive away from Vilcabamba. You can enjoy either a day hike on the Speckled Bear Trail or a multi-day camping adventure.

Climb Mount Mandango

You can bag one of Vilcabamba’s most visible peaks in two to four hours, depending on your pace. The trail to Mount Mandango gains elevation quickly as it rises above the valley floor with some steep drop-offs to offer great views of the cloud forest and villages below. If you’d rather explore by bike, you can rent equipment from the hosteria.

Facilities

Hosteria Izhcayluma is situated on a hill approximately 2km outside of Vilcabamba, enjoying spectacular vistas of the village and surrounding countryside.

Guests are housed in beautiful bungalows, set well-spaced within the grounds and decorated in a minimalist style. Balconies and hammocks overlooking the stunning landscape are a very welcome feature of the rooms and aid the general ambience of tranquility.

Services:

Relaxation is also possible in the pool, walking along the pretty, flowered pathways, playing pool or table tennis or simply enjoying a cold beer in the bar.

The hotel also has a restaurant which is open from 8am to 8pm every day except Monday (when it is closed during the middle of the day). The restaurant serves a delicious mix of both Ecuadorian and Bavarian specialities.
