Manta

Manta city is a beautiful attraction for locals and foreigners. It has beautiful beaches, the most visited include "El Murcielgao", "San Lorenzo" and "Barbasquillo". You can enjoy all day here, you can visit the Pacheco forest, sit and relax in the beach, sit along the boardwalk with friends and have your favorite drinks, and end the night in one of many clubs and bars that offer fun, music and nice people. Most enjoyble of this boom city is it's kind and humble people, that will treat you just like you were home.

Because it has some of South America's most breathtaking beaches, Manta was selected as the site of the sixth South American Windsurfing Championship. It is renowned for its diving and sport fishing.

In addition, Manta hosts an International Theater Festival in September. Sporting events take place in November, and also from January through April. In the city one also finds a selection of first rate night clubs, amusement parks, and casinos.

Manta has a rich history: it was originally settled by the pre-Hispanic Manteña culture. Today it is a primary city in the province of Manabì.

Manta has its own airport with direct flights to Quito and Guayaquil. From Manta one can easily and quickly access other destinations of interest in this small but diverse country.

Other activities available: diving, kayaking, climbing wall, biking, museums and a lot of cultural venues. Mid June through mid September is the whale season, humpback whales come to mate and give birth to their offspring just off the Ecuadorian coastline.

Montecristi

Montecristi, a colonial town founded on 1628, located below an imposing hill and renowned as the center of the Panama hat industry. These unique hats, by the way, are proudly made in Ecuador - Montecristi, not in Panama as the name would imply. In Montecristi you will have the opportunity to buy a Panama hat. Eloy Alfaro, a former President of Ecuador in the early 1900s, was born here in Montecristi, and in the city's main square you will find the statue of him--homage to the famous son.

San Antonio Ranch

Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a group dressed in traditional costumes. They will present you with a colorful souvenir necklace. This replica village exhibits past and present-day Ecuador, depicting the cultures of three regions of continental Ecuador--the Sierras or highlands, the coast, and the Amazon. These are presented through music, song, dance, and a mini-zoo of the native animals and birds from the various regions. Take a leisurely stroll through the "village" and learn about the many interesting faces of this South American destination. You will have an opportunity to view the outdoor performances, sample the foods and sweets from the different regions, and to shop for souvenirs.

Machalilla National Park

Created in 1979 Machalilla is the only coastal National Park in Ecuador. It has an area of 55,000 hectares. The park protects two offshore islands, the only coral formation on the Ecuadorian mainland coast, tropical dry forest, and also cloud forest. The weather in the park is hot and dry throughout the year. The Park contains Pre-Colombian archeological ruins and artifacts, beaches, and tropical dry forest. In addition, over 200 animal species have been identified including coastal parrots, seabirds, deer, iguanas, snakes, and anteaters.

A fascinating excursion in the park is a visit to the Isla de la Plata, an island situated just 40-km northwest of Puerto López. This small island is inhabited by a number of animals commonly found in the Galapagos Islands including blue footed boobies, pelicans, and gulls. Dolphins and whales are often sighted between June and October. The Coral Reef around the Isla de la Plata and on the adjacent coast is the only coral reef off mainland Ecuador.
